Any orphanages which Orphans in Need supports, renovates or constructs will follow our guidelines for standards of care. The staff will be vetted with relation to our Child protection policy, and training given so that standards are established and followed by all staff members.

We will work with each of our partner orphanages to help improve the accountability and efficiency of the home by ensuring the establishment of a board of directors / trustees. The aim would be to form the board from local people with a wide experience base such as Doctors, teachers, LA councillors, and local business people when possible. Close relatives of Orphanage carers and children would not serve at the same time as it creates possible conflicts of interest, and affects donor confidence.

Prior to investing any money in orphanages, we look for a level of accountability which would allow unannounced visits to ensure the children were being taken care of daily. Also we place a priority on the availability and provision of accounts and audits in relation to any funds given by Orphans in Need.
