A professional approach to running an orphanage
Any orphanages that Orphans in Need supports, renovates or constructs always follow our guidelines for standards of care. The staff are vetted in relation to our child protection policy, and training given so that standards are established and followed by all staff members.
We work with each of our partner orphanages to help improve the accountability and efficiency of the home by ensuring the establishment of a board of directors or trustees. We always try to form the board from local people such as doctors, teachers, local authority councillors and local business people when possible - people who have a wide experience base. Close relatives of orphanage carers and children would not serve at the same time as it creates possible conflicts of interest, and affects donor confidence.
Prior to investing any money in orphanages, we look for a level of accountability that would allow unannounced visits to ensure the children are being taken care of daily. We also place a priority on the availability and provision of accounts and audits in relation to any funds given by Orphans in Need.
