Education

The key to the future of orphans. We build schools and train teachers.

Without doubt, education is the key to providing opportunities for communities to break free from poverty - preventing a vicious circle that leads to illiteracy and yet further poverty. With your donations, we can provide the gift of education, which so crucially needs to start at an early age.

Even where some facilities for education are available, they are normally under resourced, having to cope with open-air schools, poor buildings, few books and teachers with little or no training. Where possible, we work with schools like these with a view to improving the quality of education available to the needy. This involves the distribution of school equipment, books and computers, as well as paying for teachers to be trained to a more competent and professional level. Every pound that you can donate will help this cause.

Orphans In Need - Education

We concentrate on three major areas of need:

  • Literacy classes - We value the diversity and culture of all the different communities we work with. We teach orphans and widows to not only converse and write in their own language, but also use the English language. This approach gives the community it’s own feeling of belonging, whilst enhancing their ability to become part of a global family.
  • Numeracy - An understanding of basic numeracy can have a major impact on rural communities. It helps to prevent unfair trade practices and people being taken advantage of. A better understanding of commerce and knowledge of weights and measures will all positively affect diet, crop yields and efficiency in the practices and methods used by rural communities.
  • Vocational courses - Orphans in Need also arranges courses to teach people about land management, conservation awareness, diet and nutrition, crop rotation and other practices beneficial to increasing yields, as well as family health and hygiene practices.
