The Orphans Sponsorship Scheme only costs £30 per month which equates to £360 per annum. Your sponsorship contribution will be used to provide the following:
If you cannot afford £30 per month then we also offer £5 or £10 per month donation which can go towards the orphan support scheme. At the end of the day every little helps. We will then use donations recieved from other donors who have not specifically chosen an orphan and make up the short-fall so each orphan will recieve a minimum of £30 per month.
Your sponsorship donations will be used to provide food, clothing, medical care and adequate shelter to your chosen orphan or the most needy orphans. Orphans in Need's ethos is to spend donors contributions wisely and to evenly distribute the funds so that the child receives care in order of precedence. The most vital being food, clean water and shelter. As long as the child is receiving food 3 times a day, has access to clean drinking water and basic shelter then we have met our first set of objectives. Many orphans are having to sleep in slum or dangerous areas where their life is at risk. During monsoon seasons or winter the child risks illnesses such as pneumonia, fever etc. It is also completely unfair for young children to sleep rough especially on hard footpaths and without any clean blankets. This is why Orphans in Need have made it a priority to spend the donors contribution to provide clean blankets and a descent bed under a secure roof.
The second order of precedence is to make sure the child has adequate education. Education is the only way we can take these orphans out of poverty otherwise as they grow up they will have look for menial low paid work and they surely deserve better. By providing adequate education at a young age we can nurture and help make the orphan gain valuble knowledge that will equip them with the right tools to excel in secondary and higher education. And armed with a descent set of qualifications will result in better paid jobs and a higher quality of life.
Orphans in Need believes that the welfare of orphans should not have any constraints or time limits. Each orphan needs careful attention, continous monitoring and full care in every aspect of his daily life. We cannot walk away from our responsibility of looking after each and every orphan until they grow up and become self-sustainable. The Sponsor an Orphan Scheme is a long term programme with only one goal - to help make each orphan achieve a good standard of education, good health and a secure and happy future. And until we do not reach this goal for each orphan, we shall continously dedicate our time and spend your contributions wisely to attain this goal.
Orphans in Need select those children that are most in need of finanancial support. However, donors can either select a specific orphan that are shown on our website or they can make a random donation and let us decide which child needs assistance. We do not base our decisions on gender but more importantly our decisions are based on current circumstance.
We work against a checklist and therefore the most urgent cases take precedence. For example age, current family support, poverty levels, current health levels of the child and current shelter arrangements are key factors that determine the level of urgency. Orphans that take higher precedence are those that have little or no family support, are young, suffer from medical problems and have no shelter.
The Orphan Sponsorship Scheme is a long term programme that will continue until each orphan becomes self sufficient. We do not wish to place time limits. As long as the orphan requires help and support we will continue to run the scheme. Our aim is to help each orphan obtain a descent education so that they can then flourish and find good stable jobs and support themselves.
The circumstances of the orphan may change, for example a family member may come forward and take full responsibility to look after the orphan and help feed, clothe, educate and provide shelter and most of all love. In such a situation, if we feel the orphan will be well looked after then we will phase out the sponsorship scheme. As well as family members, a couple may also want to adopt the orphan and again in such a circumstance we will evaluate and make sure all the necessary needs of the child can be fulfilled by the potential parents before we stop the sponsorship scheme.
For those donors that sponsor a child, Orphans in Need will provide the following:
As mentioned above, Orphans in Need encourages donors to visit their sponsored orphan so you can relate to the child and build an long-term bond that will benefit both yourself and the child. For the orphan it will bring great joy and hope to see someone from outside their country support them in every aspect of the life from food, clean water, medical care, education and shelter. And for the donor it will encourage them even more to help support the orphan, especially when they get to see the appauling conditions the child has had to endure. The face-to-face meeting will give you even more encouragement to help the plight of the orphan and to see the child smile and see the difference you have made will give you a sense of pride.
Orphans in Need are currently working with orphans in the following countries: India, Bangladesh, Lesotho, Malawi, Pakistan, South Africa, Zambia and various poor countries in Latin America. We are also working with other charity organisations to help orphans in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, China and Russian Caucasus.
It is very difficult to ascertain what other sponsorship schemes compare with Orphans in Need sponsorship scheme as actions speak louder than words. What we can say is our sponsorship scheme is designed for the orphan and how they will benefit from our scheme. We are not bound by any religion, creed or colour. Our scheme is for orphans full stop no matter where they come from and what their belief system is. An orphan is just a child who has nobody to help them and we see it as a fundamental human right that every orphan deserves food 3 times a day, access to clean drinking water, proper clotheing, good medical care, a descent education and a roof over their head.
This is why Orphans in Need are operating in Asia, Latin America and the African sub-continent. We have no political motivation, we do not care about the childs religious beliefs or any other cultural barriers.
We have only one agenda and that is to help the orphans around the world that need our help and are working with other partners via our International Partnership Programme to get as many NGO's and other charities to follow in our quest to give orphans hope for a better tomorrow.
